My journey didn't start with success. It started with drift.
For years, I had all the outward signs of achievement. But inside, I felt a vital piece was missing. I was navigating without a true compass.

I believe leadership has lost its way, and I believe we can find our way back. My journey has taught me that our greatest strength isn't in controlling the uncontrollable, but in the grace, courage, and wisdom with which we navigate it.
My philosophy wasn't born in a classroom; it was forged in the fire of 17+ years in the real world. I started on factory floors and construction sites for global firms like Cushman & Wakefield and Woodward Inc. These were high-stakes environments where leadership wasn't theoretical—it was about real people, tangible pressures, and meeting payroll. It taught me the grit of execution.
But as I moved into roles representing clients like Melbourne Airport and Monash University, I saw a disconnect. The 'command-and-control' playbook felt hollow. Success was more about influence and collaboration than authority. I saw talented people burning out, chasing impossible standards of perfection and certainty. I felt it myself. The promotions and project wins were there, but the sense of purpose felt… distant. Navigating the intricate web of stakeholders in critical infrastructure projects, I saw that true leadership was less about pure command and more about influence, collaboration, and aligning diverse interests towards a common, human goal.
The turning point came during the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the CEO of Z Fit Studios, I was responsible for the livelihoods of my team in a time of absolute uncertainty. There were no maps. It was in that crucible, and later leading teams as State Operations Leader at Amicus, that the truth became undeniable: the most powerful leadership comes not from having the perfect map, but from having the courage to navigate without one.
This realisation sent me on a journey to find a better way. I wanted to create a framework that was both strong and human—one that honoured the decisiveness needed at the helm but was anchored in the values that give the journey meaning.
Finally, an MBA with a focus on Entrepreneurship & Strategic Innovation and Global Challenges in Business, from the prestigious and globally renowned University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Gies), provided the academic rigour and tools to codify these hard-won lessons into the powerful, practical framework that is now the Nautical Leadership Model, values-as-anchor, radical adaptability, and human-centred decisiveness—crystallised from hard-won experience into a formal philosophy; which I share with you today.

My Anchors in the Storm

My wife, Saari, is the true North on my personal compass. She is my most trusted sounding board and my partner in every voyage. She challenges my thinking, expands my vision, and reminds me that the most important leadership we practice is in our own homes, with the people we love.
Our fur-baby, Seve, is a daily masterclass in what truly matters. He teaches me about patience, unconditional love, and the quiet strength of gentleness. He reminds me that the best leaders are present, loyal, and always happy to see their crew.
And to my family—especially my mother and grandmother 'biji', who raised me with a resilience that has become the bedrock of my own—thank you. Your strength is the original Beacon that lit my way.

In the spirit of learning from timeless wisdom, I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we gather, work, and write. I live and work on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. I pay my deepest respects to their Elders—past, present, and emerging—and recognise their enduring connection to country, which continues to teach us about resilience, community, and navigating with purpose.
